Frequently Asked Questions
A lot is included in reupholstery – it’s more than replacing the existing fabric.
I strip down your furniture (removing the old fabric, tacks and staples) and make any repairs. I can also change the seating configuration if needed. I restuff or replace the cushion fillings and then recover your item in new fabric and add finishing touches (pipings and trims). For this reason, reupholstery won’t be cheaper than buying new, but you get far greater value: a bespoke piece of furniture reupholstered with high-quality materials. Learn about the re-upholstery process here.
The design consultation is a comprehensive video call to explore your options and build a brief.
We’ll go into a lot of detail about your style, your home, your likes and dislikes, to ensure we create something that looks beautiful, will meet your needs, and will last for years to come.
Our consultation will take place by video call and requires a £99 deposit, but I’ll deduct this from your final invoice.
I accept antique, vintage and modern furniture upholstery projects. I also do traditional upholstery (using horsehair, springs and hessian) as well as modern upholstery, using synthetic materials like foam and modern techniques.
Yes, I do. You can choose from leather hides (although these can be expensive) or recycled leather – a high-quality, sustainable version that is more cost-efficient.
Yes, leather furniture looks fantastic re-invented in fabric. I can also reupholster just the cushions if the leather is worn and broken down.
No, I don’t carry out reupholstery at a client’s home. For health and safety, insurance and practical reasons, all reupholstery work is done at my workshop.
Yes, beauty and functionality can co-exist outdoors as well as indoors. I have a huge collection of durable outdoor fabrics to choose from to create welcoming and modern outdoor living spaces.
Choose from UV, water-resistant and colour-fast weaves, velvets, cottons, patterns and plain fabrics. Find out more here.
My ethos is sustainable furniture, so I prefer to work with an existing item to give it a new life. However, if you have a very specific requirement for a bespoke headboard, ottoman or footstool that can’t be met this way, I will be happy to bring your ideas to life. Get in touch using the contact form.
A number of fabric manufacturers now offer sustainable fabrics, and I can guide you in sourcing the right one for your project. Learn more here.
Absolutely, you don’t need to put up with a lumpy or saggy sofa seat or back cushions. I can replace the seat and back cushions with a more supportive and longer-lasting filling, extending the life of your existing sofa.
Yes, I keep a small stock of pre-loved chairs that you can pick from to create your own bespoke chair and an heirloom of the future. Get in touch to explore this as an option. Alternatively, take a look at Very Vintique for one-of-a-kind pieces awaiting a home.
Yes, I have a reliable man and van service that can handle collection and delivery, so you don’t need to worry about hiring a van. Delivery fees are calculated according to postcode.

After our design consultation, I’ll send you a large gold envelope full of samples straight to your door. It’s so important to pick fabrics and colours in the room where the chair, sofa etc., lives. Samples are free, and there are no limits. I can also send a cutting or larger fabric sample if required.
If you are struggling to choose “the one” from my many samples, don’t worry. I’m happy to arrange a second video call to talk things through, and if needed, I will resample at no charge if the first pack of samples has helped narrow down your style choice.
Once you have confirmed your fabric choice, I will issue your invoice for the fabric cost, reupholstery fee, and delivery charges (if required). At this point, you pay your deposit (100% cost of the fabric and 50% of the re-upholstery cost).
The balance is paid on completion and prior to delivery or collection. I will send you a picture so you can see your “new” item before you pay.
After I’ve received your item at the workshop, you can expect the work to take 4-5 weeks, but I’ll discuss this with you when you book your project. Sofas are normally quicker.
When reupholstery is complete, I’ll send you photos of your finished furniture and a balance invoice. Once paid, I’ll arrange for your item to be dropped off, or you can collect it from the workshop.
Yes, I do, and I’m passionate about helping other people on their upholstery journeys. Take a look at my mentoring options for new and established upholsterers here.
