Exciting news: The launch of Very Vintique

I talked earlier this year about something very exciting that I’ve been working on and today is the launch day!

Very Vintique was born from a desire to create beautiful one-off pieces of furniture inspired by my own imagination. The idea of seeking out my OWN pieces, inventing a vision and creating something inspirational is how Very Vintique came about… and today, the first chair is available to buy!

Don’t get me wrong, I love revamping treasured items of furniture for my customers – learning about the history of the pieces, whether they were online bargains or heirlooms handed down through time. I don’t see it as a job, but rather a passion to create furniture that people will love for generations.

I am often asked whether I sell any of my own furniture. The answer is usually, no. I happily work on commissions, enjoying the privilege of restoring, revamping and reupholstering other people’s pieces. But the truth is, I rarely have the time to work on my own projects. Instead, I work on YOURS.

Recently though, I have been overwhelmed by an irresistible urge to tackle my own inventions. Curated like a gallery, I’ve begun sourcing furniture and selecting fabrics and I’m now so excited to launch the very first piece of my collection, which will be a series of unique, handcrafted, and totally bespoke one-offs.

Bespoke furniture with a designer touch

Spotting the potential in old furniture has always been something I’ve loved. Trawling the pitches at Kempton Antiques on a Tuesday morning and knowing that there will be all kinds of dusty, neglected gems just crying out for some love and attention is something I adore. You’ll also know that I have an absolute obsession with fabrics – seeking out new styles, embracing the most vivid colours and championing the best existing and emerging designers.

“I love marrying together the most incredible fabrics to create perfect furniture matches.”

And then, there’s the detail – each Very Vintique piece is finished with precision. It could be the addition of some contrast piping that makes the piece spring to life or a colour-matched button that’s added as an unexpected touch. There will be no compromises on the quality or the finish. All pieces will have a special, hidden Very Vintique touch added and will be totally bespoke in every way.

Introducing item number one – The Neo 13 Hampton Court Mid-Century velvet chair

Today, I’m delighted to introduce you to item number 1! Hailing from the Danish mid-century modern era, it’s a style that is so very close to my heart. With a super comfortable sprung seat and back, it’s traditionally padded with horsehair – typical of a chair crafted in the early 1950s. Not only is it designed for comfort, but it also boasts some beautiful delicate features in the form of a wonderful, curved back, sleek wooden teak arms and conical front legs.

My fabric choice is Neo 13 – a stunning Black pop British velvet that I’ve had my eye on for a very long time. The design is a wonderful blend of colours and shapes, with connections to a local landmark, Hampton Court Palace. In fact, the design has been re-created from Sir John Soane’s and Richard Adam’s original architectural drawings and a sketch design for the ceiling of the Queen’s State Bed chamber at the palace.

It is also totally sustainable, bearing all the eco-credentials that I am so passionate about. Black pop velvets are digitally printed in the UK using environmentally sustainable water-based inks and made from plastic drinking water bottles diverted from landfills. The chair has been finished off with a pop of sherbet velvet piping from the Linwood Omega velvet collection.

This gem is for you if you’ve always dreamed of owning something that’s a total one-off. It’s my very first exclusive and limited-edition piece. But watch out for more to come… these high-end, design-led Very Vintique pieces will be available as exclusive one-off items available on the website.
